History

This heavy cruiser, commissioned in 1934 and decommissioned in 1946, served valiantly during WW II and earned 17 Battle Stars.  She was at Pearl Harbor during the surprise attack by the Japanese on December 7, 1941.
During the night battle of Tassafaronga on November 30 , 1942 she was torpedoed, suffered major damage and lose of life, but returned to fight again just 9 months later, in September 1943
